Come and Try Croquet
The McIlwraith Croquet Club invites anyone interested to try
the game of Croquet - a game for people of all ages and levels of ability.
Simply call Sandy on 3870 3771 to make an appointment.
Croquet is a very reasonably priced sport to play.
At Mcilwraith our full membership fees are $355 Per Annum, members do not pay green fees.
The club has loan mallets for new members to try and new mallets can be
purchased from about $150 up. Handy people often make their own mallets.
The only other things you need to play are
flat soled shoes, a sun hat and a good sunscreen.
About the Club
McIlwraith Croquet Club was established in 1923 after the land was bequeathed to the Town of Toowong by Lady McIlwraith
(wife of Sir Thomas McIlwraith, Premier of Queensland, serving 3 times in the years 1879 to 1893).
It was donated for recreational purposes only! We are not sure of the origin of the clubhouse,
club records were destroyed in the
1974 flood when the entire building was submerged except for the roof.
Woman Only Club until 1946
We have recently learned that Males were not allowed to join the club until 1946.
Our Clubhouse has been completely renovated after the Jan 2011 floods with the help of government and community support. We now boast
first class facilities for members and visitors. The club is now a great venue for functions and celebrations.
Visiting Croquet players are welcome at McIlwraith while holidaying in
and around Brisbane. Please feel free to join us any member playing day and
meet the friendly locals!
