Mrs J Gibson was a member of Windsor Croquet Club for twenty years from 1938. She had outstanding managerial expertise and was President of the Australian Croquet Council (ACC) in 1954, 1955 and 1956. The ACC was formed in 1949 in Brisbane with Mrs Gibson as Chairman and was affiliated with the Croquet Association of England in 1950.

In 1941 the Brisbane Courier acknowledged her contribution to women's sport and to the community.

"Mrs J Gibson, President of the Queensland Croquet Association, expects to have raised more than one hundred pounds for Red Cross Funds in the year ended August 12, from making jams, pickles and aprons. She assists the Red Cross three days a week and makes her jams at home in the evenings. She also is treasurer of the Alexandra Home. A member of Windsor Croquet Club, Mrs Gibson plays croquet one afternoon a week. She is past president of the club, and is now in her second year as president of QCA."

After Mrs Gibson died in 1958 her husband donated one hundred pounds for a medal in her honour.
